Lady of Cats by coreythorn Lady of Cats by coreythorn
I am -finally- finished this piece! Yay! It's only been sitting on my computer with the lines, 2/3 of the greyscale, and 1/2 the colours done for -months-. (Then summer hit, and that pretty much withered away my Muse until recently). Finally spent today finishing it up- obviously, this is a picture of Bast, the Egyptian deity of protection, cats, and originally of the sun.

As with my previous picture of Anubis, I deliberately chose to use a limited palette so as to remain true to the traditional feel of the depiction of Egyptian deities. This one is a little more colourful, but there's a full background and foreground. (Yes, I know lotuses don't actually come in those colours, but I didn't want to add a bunch of flowers that didn't match the rest of the picture.)

Reference for the pose was taken from the lovely photography of =faestock.

Don't worry about the lotuses! She's a deity, so it stands that she'd have certain flora and fauna not seen on earth, right? :D (Big Grin)  Your take on her is certainly interesting; having her cat head have fur the same colour as her skin- or is she completely covered in fur? The only problem I'd say I have with this is her dress; it looks more Greek than Egyptian. But still, great work! Clap

I'd envisioned her covered in the short fur of an Abyssinian cat, actually, though honestly, either interpretation works. (Again, deity, so her skin could theoretically be any colour.)

I can't remember what reference I used for the dress; I know I had one. It may have been Egyptian but influenced by Greek or Roman, depending on the time period I used.

Thank you for the fav!

You are now officially one of my favorite artists! I love Rafael still, and you were great then, but you've now surpassed great and hit the Big Time. :)

*grins* Thanks, and yeah. I actually look at that old art and cringe a little. Not that I think it's -bad-, just that I know I am so much better now, yeah? I've made a lot of progress over the last couple of years.
